Settled In – Now It’s Time to Celebrate: Care & Career Welcomes the 2026 Trainee Cohort

The first few weeks in Germany are behind them: the international trainees taking part in the Care & Career project have arrived in Bayreuth, settled into their new surroundings and taken their first steps towards a career in nursing. Now it is time to celebrate this shared beginning.

A new country, a new language, a new home and a new professional environment: for the international trainees participating in the Care & Career project, the 2026 training cohort marks the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. The first few weeks have been filled with new experiences and challenges. Alongside settling into life in Bayreuth, they have had to find their way around their new everyday surroundings, gain their first experiences in the workplace and complete their first week at nursing school – for many, thousands of kilometres away from family and friends.

This made the opportunity to spend an evening together all the more special. At a relaxed get-together featuring an extensive Chinese buffet, everyone enjoyed food, laughter and the chance to look back on the past few weeks. The evening gave the trainees an opportunity to spend time together away from work and training and enjoy the sense of community that has already begun to develop.

Community – An Important Part of Settling In

The BRK District Association Bayreuth also supported the trainees throughout their initial period. Those attending the evening included Markus Ruckdeschel, Managing Director of the BRK District Association Bayreuth; Chen Chen, Care & Career Project Manager and Staff Unit for Personnel Recruitment; and Lena Röglinger, Internal Integration Officer.

The evening highlighted how important personal connections and a positive sense of community are, alongside professional training, when starting a new life in unfamiliar surroundings. After all, settling in means more than simply finding a new place to live and work. It also means making connections, building trust and becoming part of a community.
