The Pepit’Arts de Benin choir brought vibrant rhythms and warm smiles to the BRK Retirement Home in Bayreuth, delighting residents with an afternoon of music, culture, and heartfelt connection. The group’s visit was made possible through an invitation from the association IFEDE – Help for Self-Help – Republic of Benin e.V. – and Bayreuth’s Integration Officer, Ibukun Koussemou.
A Welcome Return after Three Years
This was not the choir’s first time in Bayreuth. Three years ago, the young musicians, then visiting as part of a cultural exchange, had already charmed audiences across the city, including the Bayreuth branch of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK). This summer, they returned – 13 children and young people accompanied by two supervisors – and made it a priority to reconnect with their friends at the BRK District Association Bayreuth.
Music, Rhythm, and Community
At the BRK Retirement Home, the largest senior facility of the BRK in Bayreuth, the choir delivered a lively performance showcasing their musical talent and passion for rhythm, harmony, and togetherness. Their repertoire ranged from traditional drumming to joyful songs that soon had residents clapping along and even moving to the beat.
A Cultural Bridge Across Generations
For the seniors, it was more than just a concert – it was a window into the rich musical traditions of Benin and a moment of shared humanity that transcended language and age. Many expressed their admiration not only for the artistry of the young performers but also for their warmth and openness.
IFEDE – Building Futures in Benin
Founded with a mission whose name in Yoruba means “Love has arrived,” IFEDE has long been dedicated to improving education and social opportunities for children in Dassa-Zoumè, Benin. Its initiatives include building new classrooms, providing school furniture, and fostering partnerships between schools in Benin and Germany.
