Anyone who “goes mushroom picking” heads into the forest to search for and collect mushrooms. The German expression “in die Pilze gehen” has long been part of everyday language and describes a leisure activity that combines experiencing nature with the joy of discovery.
Discovering the World of Mushroomsn
Under the motto “Welcome to the World of Mushrooms!”, participants set off on an exciting discovery tour with Andreas Auer, a mushroom expert from the German Mycological Society (DGfM). During the guided educational walk, they learned more about native mushroom species, their distinctive characteristics and how to identify them safely. The focus was on discovering things firsthand: the group explored nature and learned to look more closely.
The group was accompanied by Chen Chen, responsible for International Recruitment and project manager of Care and Career, and Lena Röglinger, the in-house integration coordinator.
Experiencing Nature and Strengthening Community
In addition to gaining specialist knowledge, the walk offered an opportunity to discover the local natural environment from a new perspective and strengthen connections within the group. Away from the demands of everyday working life, the focus was on sharing an experience.
Although the group did not collect enough mushrooms for a shared evening meal, the participants returned home with many new impressions and interesting insights. It was an informative and sociable afternoon that combined experiencing nature with a sense of community.
