When Dialect Meets German Lessons
As part of the Care & Career project by the BRK District Association Bayreuth, German lessons for international trainees and skilled workers in recognition were recently enriched with a very special element: Franconian dialect, straight from the source.
To strengthen integration into the region and bring cultural exchange to life, participants received a surprise visit from high-ranking guest instructors speaking in the Franconian vernacular. Markus Ruckdeschel, District Manager of the BRK District Association Bayreuth, and Thomas Petrak, District Manager of the BRK District Association Lichtenfels, jointly conducted a lesson with a special focus on the regional language..
Learning with Practical Relevance
In a hands-on and entertaining session, they introduced typical Franconian expressions and idioms. The trainees and skilled workers were able not only to expand their German language skills but also to gain a better understanding of the linguistic peculiarities of the region where they currently live and work. Insight into the dialect promotes everyday communication and also strengthens the sense of belonging to the region.
Intercultural Exchange on Equal Footing
Particularly enriching was the subsequent change of perspective: the participants, in turn, presented dialects and linguistic peculiarities from their home countries. This created a lively intercultural exchange characterized by openness, curiosity, and mutual appreciation, bringing great joy to all involved.
Language Support within the Care & Career Project
This offering is part of the Care & Career project, coordinated by project manager Chen Chen. Within this framework, German courses are regularly offered for international trainees and skilled workers in recognition. In addition to language instruction, topics such as German culture and history are also covered.
Moreover, practical everyday topics are addressed to help participants navigate their new environment confidently—from doctor visits and administrative procedures to leisure activities. Handling challenges in school and work life is also explored together.
Integration through Encounters
With formats like this, the Care & Career project demonstrates that integration succeeds not only through language but, above all, through encounters and lived exchange.
