Diversity in the BRK District Association Bayreuth: Raising Awareness and Preventing Discrimination

Workshop with the Anti-Discrimination Counseling Service “Füreinander in Oberfranken” (FiO) to promote preventive and intervention strategies against discrimination and to raise awareness of diversity within the BRK District Association Bayreuth.

The BRK District Association Bayreuth is open to all people – regardless of origin, religion, political belief, or sexual orientation. With around 700 employees from over 30 countries, each individual brings a unique story and personal experience to the table. This diversity enriches everyday work and fosters deeper mutual understanding – even across differences. At the same time, it requires targeted efforts to ensure respectful interaction and equal treatment for all.

Challenges of a Diverse Society

Modern lifestyles, global networking, and increased mobility have led to a steadily growing diversity within society. Crises also challenge the BRK District Association Bayreuth to unite people of various backgrounds under the emblem of humanity and to enable cooperative work. The seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross provide crucial guidance in this regard. However, to implement them sustainably, targeted training and awareness measures are essential.

Workshop to Promote Diversity and Equality

To educate leadership personnel from all areas of activity at the Red Cross in Bayreuth about the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG), the BRK District Association Bayreuth invited experts from the anti-discrimination counseling service “Füreinander in Oberfranken” (FiO). The aim of the workshop was to convey both preventive and intervention strategies against discrimination and to build awareness of diversity.

Results and Measures for an Inclusive Workplace Culture

In addition to learning about the legal foundations, participants worked in groups to develop concrete strategies to promote equality in everyday work. Together, they identified relevant practical issues and devised measures aimed at fostering a diversity-sensitive and inclusive organizational culture.

With this workshop, the BRK District Association Bayreuth sends a strong message in support of lived diversity, mutual respect, and equal opportunities – values that shape everyday interactions and will sustainably influence the future of the organization.
